PowerPoint Plagiarism Checker by ZeroTell · slide-by-slide sources

Upload your presentation and we check the text of each slide against pages on the web. Slides that match a source are flagged so you know where to add a citation.

Plagiarism report

Your report will appear here: an overall score, the slides that need citations and the sources for each match.

How the PowerPoint Plagiarism Checker works

  1. We read every slide

Text is pulled from each slide of a .pptx file, or from each page of a PDF export. Images and speaker notes are not checked.

  2. Sentences are searched as exact phrases

Sentences long enough to be distinctive are looked up on the web, spread across the whole deck: 20 searches per 20 slides.

  3. Matches are traced to their slide

Each match is attributed to the slide it came from, with the page it was found on and how closely it matches.

  4. You add the citations

Slides with matches are listed at the top, so you can open each source and credit it.

What you get in every report

  • Per-slide results

Every slide is listed with its text, its matches and a clear status: needs a citation, no match, or too little text to search.

  • Real source links

Each match links to the page it was found on. Open it and compare the wording yourself.

  • An overall score with coverage

The share of the checked text that matched the web, and exactly how many sentences were searched.

  • A citation to-do list

The slides that need citations are listed first, linked to their place in the report.

Who uses it

  • Students

Check a group presentation before it is submitted or presented in class.

  • Teachers

See which slides of a student deck repeat text found online, with the source to compare.

  • Consultants and trainers

Make sure a client deck credits the reports and articles it borrows from.

  • Conference speakers

Confirm that definitions and quotes on your slides are attributed.

Frequently asked questions

PowerPoint .pptx files and PDFs exported from slides, up to 10 MB and 200 slides. For Keynote or Google Slides, export to .pptx or PDF first. Older .ppt files are not supported.

Sentences of at least 8 words are eligible. Up to 20 of them are searched per 20 slides, spread evenly across the deck. The report always states how many were searched, and short bullet points are often too brief to search.

It is the share of the checked text, by length, that matched a web page. A sentence matches when at least half of its three-word phrases appear in the search result for that page.

Not on the Pro plans* (*fair use: each check counts as one run, up to 300 runs a day, and its web searches count toward 1,000 web searches a day). Without a plan, a check uses 2 credits for a deck of up to 20 slides, plus 1 credit for each further 20 slides (for example, 45 slides use 4 credits). A ZeroTell account is needed.

No. Only the text on the slides is checked. Text inside images is not read.

No. The file is read in memory and discarded. Sentences from your slides are sent to our search provider to run the check.
